Kids Making Soap in 3 Steps

Learning to make soap to go with our handmade crochet dish cloths was a ton of fun.  We felt like kitchen scientists!

To make pantry soap in three steps we used 1 cup of glycerin, a few drops of essential oil, dye, and 2 tsp. of additions.

1. We melted 1 cup of glycerin in small chunks for approximately 1 minute in the microwave (first batch was in too long and bubbled over).

2. Then we fairly quickly (soap will start to set if you take too long and if this happens simply melt it down again in the microwave) added:

Bottom bars - a few drops of lavender oil and red and blue food colouring.

Middle bars - 1 tsp. of honey, 1 tsp. almond meal and a handful of oatmeal to clear glycerin (no dye or scent added)

Top bars  - peppermint squirts, green food colouring, 1 tsp. of Christmas blend tea and sprinkles of mint leaves.

3. We then poured the soap mixture into molds (anything goes here from muffin pans to yogurt container's), and let sit for 20 minutes.
Warning these soaps look incredibly edible!

Now the soap is ready for cookie cutter's or to be wrapped up  with pretty bows.  We pressed some pansies to decorate the soap but they won't be ready for two weeks.

Crocheting Soap on a Rope is super fun too!

Feel free to share your project photo's on our Facebook Page.  We would sure love to see them!
