10+ Kids Rock Crafts and Activities

We seem to have a natural rock thing going on this month! To make it easier we put them all together to give you "10+ Kids Rock Crafts and Activities".
.

We collected the above rocks while taking a break from gold panning in Yale, B.C.

The largest rock was doodled to resemble a mehndi design.  To get the colours to pop out we drew with a white paint marker and went over it with coloured Sharpie pens.

Some of the rocks in our collection looked prettier when they were wet.  Unfortunately, we gave away our rock polishing machine so we brushed the rocks with mod podge instead.  Now they are all shiny again!

The third and fourth crafts we have wanted to do for a long time...chalkboard paint rocks!

Brightly coloured cheerful inspiration stones! The lighter stones are easier to paint so we primed the darker stones with a coat of white acrylic paint first.

Rock bugs...

Monster Rock Tic Tac Toe Game!

All you need to create this game is a few clean beach stones or river pebbles, a large rock, acrylic paint, a black sharpie pen and googly eyes. The idea for the adorable monster faces came from "Coast Always" here.

Story Stones! Kids can chalk their own images and keep storytelling fresh. Instructions to make your own here.

Stencils on rocks! We used paper doilies from the dollar store and a black sharpie pen on a white painted rock.

This morning we started balancing rocks to make Inukshuk's.  When the rocks started to collapse we turned it into a game much like Jenga.  The object of the game is to take turns balancing the rocks into the shape of an Inukshuk until the stack tumbles.

With the left over rocks we heated up the glue gun and with gobs of glue we pieced together a few Inukshuk's as gifts. Using gravity glue we balanced a few along our footpath to welcome visitor's to our home.

Gold panning is a simple and fun activity for the whole family!

Melted crayon Hot Rocks!

We are learning how to crochet ocean stones. If you can count, crochet a single and a double crochet -- you can do it too! Free pattern here.

Precious Stone Paperclip Bookmarks. It's amazing what you can make with a little glue and wire!

Craft your own decorative Rain Chain with rocks and loose parts.

We hope you like our rocks and are inspired to go rock hounding!

Happy hounding!

Feel free to share your project photo's on our Facebook Page.  We would sure love to see them!
